Mehregan 2024

Sunday, October 6, at Shawnee Mission Park, Shelter 10

We are thrilled to invite you to join Aria Group KC for our annual Mehregan celebration!

Mehregan is a cherished festival in Persian culture, symbolizing friendship, love, and gratitude. Traditionally held during the fall equinox, it marks the harvest season and is dedicated to Mehr, the Zoroastrian deity of light, love, and loyalty. This celebration brings our community together to honor these enduring values and to express our appreciation for the blessings in our lives.
In ancient Persia, Mehregan was considered one of the most significant festivals after Nowruz. This festival was celebrated annually from the 16th to the 21st of Mehr (October 8th to 13th). The ancient Iranians held numerous ceremonies and festivals throughout the year, celebrating every month. In their calendar, each day of the month had a specific name, and when the name of the day coincided with the name of the month, it was considered a blessed day, celebrated with a festival.
Among these festivals, Nowruz, Mehregan, and Sadeh were the most important national celebrations. Mehr, one of the major deities mentioned in the Avesta, was associated with friendship, loyalty, truth, and opposition to falsehood. Due to the high regard in which the deity Mehr was held, the most splendid celebrations were held on this day. Originally called “Metrakana,” this festival later became known as “Mehregan.”
This year’s event is free and open to all. Whether you’re familiar with Mehregan or experiencing it for the first time, this is a wonderful opportunity to connect, learn, and celebrate together.
We look forward to seeing you there!
